Winter is here, and the Night of Ice Rinks is just around the corner. We've rounded up the most amazing ice rinks in Budapest where you can lace up your skates and hit the ice.
When real winter arrives, Budapest shows a completely different face, and we are also interested in different programs than in the warmer seasons. How about a little ice skating? Whether you are a seasoned ice rink goer or just putting on your skates for the first time, you will definitely find a rink in the capital where you are guaranteed a winter experience. We show you the three places where we think it is best to skate in Budapest right now.
Did you know? The Night of Ice Rinks will be held on January 17th, when several ice rinks across the country, including Budapest, will be waiting with unique programs, games and surprises. It's worth taking advantage of, but if you miss this special event, don't worry, as you can still enjoy the magic of skating afterwards at the following super ice rinks (some of them until April).
City Park Ice Rink (Városliget Műjégpálya)
Budapest's largest outdoor ice rink (and in our opinion the most atmospheric) is located next to Heroes' Square and Vajdahunyad Castle, and has been welcoming skating enthusiasts for over 100 years. Rent skates, and for the kids, ask for Bobby, the seal, who will help make the icy family adventure an experience from the very first moments. In between skating sessions, you can buy hot tea and the so-called "melegszendvics" (hot sandwiches), as well as chimney cakes, and you can also choose from the food trucks on the other side of the City Park Ice Rink.
Jégkert
If you are looking for a great place in Buda where you can skate, curl and have dinner, or maybe even celebrate your birthday with your friends, we recommend Jégkert - and they are open until the end of April! And you will have the opportunity to skate at night not only on the Night of the Ice Rinks, but every day, between 8 and 11 pm.
Budapest Park
Budapest Park has once again been transformed into an ice rink, so it can provide you with unforgettable moments in winter, until February 1. You can also rent skates and ice penguins, and if you get tired while curling, you can recharge with hot drinks and winter delicacies in their cozy huts.
With one ticket you can skate from opening to closing, but you can only enter once. You will need a special ticket on certain days in January, you can read more about this here.
