Budapest once again welcomed some of the biggest names in international cinema. The legendary Rosenstein Vendéglő shared a special moment with its followers after hosting Oscar-nominated actors Ralph Fiennes and Viggo Mortensen, together with Hungarian-Canadian film producer Robert Lantos.

The family-run Budapest restaurant wrote on Facebook: “It was a pleasure to welcome Ralph Fiennes, Viggo Mortensen and Robert Lantos to Rosenstein. Thank you for visiting and for stopping by several times during your stay in Budapest.” The post quickly attracted attention from film fans, with many celebrating the unusual meeting of two actors known worldwide for iconic roles — Fiennes as Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films and Mortensen as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The actors have been spending time in Budapest while working on legendary Hungarian director István Szabó’s new film adaptation of Sándor Márai’s acclaimed novel A gyertyák csonkig égnek (Embers). The production brings together an extraordinary international team, with Ralph Fiennes and Viggo Mortensen in the leading roles, Christopher Hampton writing the screenplay, and Robert Lantos serving as producer. The film is being shot in Budapest, continuing the city’s long tradition as a major European filming location.

Set around a dramatic reunion between two old friends after many years apart, Márai’s 1942 novel is considered one of the great works of 20th-century Hungarian literature. The film marks another major international project connected to Budapest and highlights the city’s ability to provide historic locations, experienced crews and a unique atmosphere for large-scale productions.
