Nostalgia Trips in Budapest in July

You can take several nostalgia trips in July. All you need is a bus or tram ticket and some information, which we can provide.

The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) is offering several nostalgia trips in July, including journeys on wooden and steel-framed trams, as well as open-top buses, throughout the capital, the company announced in a statement sent to MTI.

The general public can reach the downtown Danube bank and Budapest's historic sites and monuments by atmospheric wooden and steel-framed trams and open-top buses. Meanwhile, hikers in the Buda Hills and visitors to the Night of the Gliders can take 'Methuselah' vehicles to János Hill, BKK told MTI on Thursday. 

Enjoy the panorama of the Danube and a ride through the city

The panorama of the Danube can be viewed from the Pest bank of the Danube on Saturdays and from the Buda quay on Sundays on the N2 tram. You can also explore other Budapest sights with the N109 open-top bus.

According to the announcement, the N4 bus that runs through the city on weekends is a real speciality. The express service runs from Erzsébet királyné útja via Andrássy út to the Zugliget Libegő.

Buses and trolleybuses

A special service will run between Széll Kálmán tér and the Zugliget Chairlift (Libegő) on 12 July during the Night of the Chairlifts. The R158 retro bus will not stop along the way; passengers can only board or alight at the two end stations. 

According to the information provided, on 14 July, the over 150-year-old N60 nostalgia cogwheel tram will run between the Városmajor and Széchenyihegy terminuses. Those interested will also be able to try out the nostalgic service in August. 

At the end of July, the Ikarus 280T trolleybus will start operating on the old line 72, and on 26 July, a ZiU-type trolleybus made in the Soviet Union will run between Örs vezér tere and Öv utca/Egressy út. 

What about the tickets and schedule?

Tickets can be purchased via the BudapestGO app, at any BKK customer centre or box office, or from the nostalgia service staff. Retro fares are available at the normal fare rate, according to the BKK statement.
