Musical Gastronomic Tour Across the Continent: Tastes of Europe at Müpa Budapest Again This Year

2025.10.16

Music can be delicious too! Müpa Budapest’s popular youth concert series, Tastes of Europe, invites young audiences on a musical and gastronomic journey this year again. Four concerts, four countries – new experiences worth trying.

Although the series serves the rightfully famous melodies of a nation in three courses each time, Tastes of Europe is not just about music. Each concert offers a cultural perspective and experiences spiced up with humor and interactivity, as for many these occasions are their first real encounter with the world of classical music. As a presenter, opera singer Szilveszter Szélpál helps young audiences get a taste for not-so-serious classical music, while also ensuring that art does not appear as an inaccessible attraction, but remains in the audience’s memories as a multitude of experiential, understandable, joyful and inspiring moments. As a moderator, he not only connects the programs, but also asks the conductor any questions that may arise, and gives the answers to the schoolchildren in a clear and humorous way.

Another permanent participant in the musical gastro tour is the National Philharmonic Orchestra, led by such great conductors as Róbert Farkas, Ádám Cser, Levente Török and Marcell Dénes-Worowski. The four concerts of the season invite you on a true cultural journey: from England, through Germany and Austria, to Poland.

Four concerts, four countries: enjoy Taste of Europe at Müpa Budapest

On October 19, a tea morning evoking the elegant traditions of the island will offer an insight into English musical traditions. Purcell’s baroque overture gives a taste of Shakespeare’s fabulous world, Britten’s piece on a Purcell theme playfully modernizes the 17th-century work, and Elgar’s iconic overture, Pomp and Light, will be the dessert.

The next concert, on November 16, will guide the audience to Germany: Mendelssohn’s well-known Wedding March will be played as an appetizer, the opening movement of Beethoven’s “Eroica” symphony will be played as the main course, and Wagner’s iconic piece, The Ride of the Valkyries, will dot the German i.

The Austrian feast on March 22nd will be a cheerful start with Mozart’s Così fan tutte overture, Haydn’s “Thumper” symphony will arrive as a spirited main course, and Johann Strauss the Younger’s Blue Danube Waltz will crown the matinee.

The final concert of the series, which will conclude on May 17th, will transport the audience to Poland in their imagination. Moniuszko’s fairy tale piece will whet the appetite for the opening movement of Chopin’s First Piano Concerto, and finally Antoni Szałowski’s orchestral overture will provide a gourmet ending to the intimate and festive feast.

With this series, Müpa remains true to its mission: to build a bridge between the past and the future, between classical music and younger audience members. The flavors of Europe are a sure entry point for the next generations, so that they can move at home in the captivating world of culture and the arts.
