The Most Colourful Weekend Program: The Museums' May Festival Awaits You

2026.05.15

On May 16th and 17th, the Hungarian National Museum will organize the 29th Museums Festival, in which 104 institutions from all over the country will participate. Those interested can expect walks in the museum garden, family programs and concerts.

At the 29th Museums' May Festival, you can not only get to know the 104 museums and exhibition spaces that will be relocated to the Museum Garden, but there will also be interactive presentations, guided tours, discussions and community experiences - the Hungarian National Museum highlights in a statement.

The event will begin on Saturday with an opening ceremony and the presentation of the Museum of the Year 2026 award. Medea Sógor Ekner, Director General of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), will also participate in the festival and will greet the participants in Hungarian at the opening.

This year, the motto of World Museum Day, which is associated with the Museums' May Festival and celebrated all over the world, is: museums connect a divided world. One of the goals of the event is to show that museums are not just exhibition spaces, but also living community spaces that truly connect everyone through our stories, memories and values.
