Moby will perform in Hungary again next year after a fifteen-year break. The defining figure of electronic music and contemporary culture will give a concert at Budapest Park on August 1, 2026.
The American artist, who returned to performing last year after a break of more than a decade, will embark on a large-scale tour next year, which will bring a renewed live concept to the stage: ambient textures, rave-energy rhythms and soulful vocals will be heard with new intensity - the organizers announced to MTI on Thursday.
As they wrote, the program will include Moby's biggest hits, lesser-known gems from his career, as well as fresh, reinterpreted arrangements, in which nostalgia and today's sound are present at the same time.
Speaking about his musical roots in 2011, before his memorable concert at the VOLT Festival in Sopron, he told MTI that in the 1970s he was influenced by his mother's very diverse taste, listening to everything from John Coltrane to Bruce Springsteen. Later, when he moved to New York, punk rock, hip hop, salsa, reggae and more came into the picture.
Moby made his mark in music history
Moby (real name Richard Melville Hall) was born in 1965, his nickname and later his stage name were inspired by his famous ancestor, writer Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick. His first single, Go, was released in 1991 - he has since released 22 albums. The lo-fi electronic world he developed in the 1990s has now become a global musical symbol. Loneliness and hope, longing and loss, memory and the weight of time are still present in Moby's music.
The breakthrough came with his sixth album, Play, released in 1999, which sold over 12 million copies worldwide and is considered one of the most influential electronic albums of all time.
Porcelain, Natural Blues, Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? and Honey have become cultural staples to this day. Moby was the first artist to license every song from an entire album for films, series and commercials.
He made his mark in music history with prestigious awards - including MTV, Billboard and Grammy nominations and has worked with David Bowie, Public Enemy, Ozzy Osbourne, Beastie Boys and Daft Punk; his remixes are defining works of today's music scene.
Humanitarian work and a down-to-earth attitude
In addition to his musical work, he is active in humanitarian work: he supports the Humane Society, the ACLU and the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function, among others. As a filmmaker, he runs the Little Walnut production company, and is credited with the award-winning Moby Doc and Punk Rock Vegan Movie documentaries at international festivals. He is currently working on a feature film titled Tecie, which is expected to be released in the summer of 2026.
In recent years, his creative career has expanded into new artistic and personal directions. He uses his music as a tool for deeper self-reflection, awakening awareness, and conveying spiritual and social messages.
He is one of the most well-known advocates of animal protection, environmental protection, veganism, and conscious lifestyle, and donates significant amounts of his income to charitable causes.
He is also known for his directness: he often talks to guests in his own cafes in New York or Los Angeles, keeping himself away from the hype surrounding celebrities.
Moby has visited Hungary several times, first in 1994 and most recently in 2011, at the VOLT Festival in Sopron. Next year it will be organized by Charm Music Hungary.
