The 2026 Season at the Margaret Island Theatre is about to Begin

The Margaret Island Theatre will open its 2026 season on Saturday, with opera, musicals, operettas, dance performances and pop concerts scheduled until 6 September.

The Margaret Island Theatre is preparing a unique program this year as well, offering value, experience and international-level art to the audience - emphasized Teodóra Bán, the managing director and artistic director of the Margaret Island Theatre Nonprofit Kft. at the press conference on Tuesday presenting the season.

The opening event of the season, which will take place between May 16 and September 6, will be the Vasovski Symphonic concert, which awaits the audience with a DJ set, live instruments, singing, world hits and a laser show. The concert's star guest will be singer Johanna Lengyel.

Jazz and Wine Festival and Children's Day on Margaret Island

Teodóra Bán said that the Jazz and Wine Festival will be organized for the third time at Pentecost, between May 22 and 25, in collaboration with the Hungarian Jazz Association. International performers include Italian singer Mario Biondi, who is coming to Budapest as part of his European tour, and two-time Grammy Award-winning American jazz singer Kurt Elling.

Among the domestic performers, the László Attila Fusion Circus, the Budapest Ragtime Band and the Easy Jazz Band will perform, while wineries from the country's wine regions will offer their wines, Teodóra Bán pointed out.

On the occasion of Children's Day, on May 30, Disney's The Lion King will be screened with live orchestral accompaniment. The Danubia Orchestra will be participating in the production, conducted by Stefan Geiger.

Opera, operetta and musical productions

This season also included four opera performances. On June 25 and 26, the operas Peasant's Honour and The Bajazzók will be performed with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra and the Debrecen Kodály Choir, conducted by Zsolt Jankó. On July 23 and 25, Verdi's opera Il trovatore will be performed with Yusif Eyvazov and Marina Rebeka in the lead roles, with the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Choir. In August, Verdi's opera Nabucco will also return to the stage with Mihály Kálmándy, Riccardo Gatto, András Palerdi and Csilla Boross.

Musical productions include Anna Karenina on July 3 and 4 with the Győr National Theatre, and Wonderland, a musical that evokes the world of Alice in Wonderland, performed by the Hungarian Theatre on July 31 and August 1. On September 6, the season will be closed with the musical Edda by A kör – Edda.

On July 17, operetta lovers can see Pál Ábrahám’s Viktória at the Vörösmarty Theatre, starring Elvíra Haraszti, Attila Dolhai and Péter Trokán.

Concerts and ballet at the Margaret Island Theatre

The National Philharmonic Orchestra will give a concert on June 4 on the occasion of National Unity Day as part of the Cziffra Festival, with pianist János Balázs and violinist Zoltán Bácsy-Schwartz, conducted by György Vashegyi.

Teodóra Bán highlighted the Black Swan performance by the Szeged Contemporary Ballet, which will be performed by the audience on August 26.

The light music programs include a solo concert by Andrea Szulák, with the participation of Tamás Veréb, Kati Wolf and Ferenc Molnár Caramel, the latter also giving a full-length concert on Margaret Island. The 100 Members Gypsy Symphony Orchestra, Róbert Szikora and Budapest Bar will also perform. In addition, three literary walks will be organized on Margaret Island, led by Kata Bach.
