Retro atmosphere, modern urban vibe: one of Budapest's most exciting design hotels, Mamaison Vibe Hotel Downtown Budapest, has opened.
The four-star Mamaison Vibe Hotel Downtown Budapest, which has been operating in a soft opening period since December 18, 2025, officially opened its doors on April 16 with a fabulous Grand Opening event.
In the heart of the city center, at Mérleg utca 4, a few steps from the Danube and the Chain Bridge, Budapest's hotel offering has been enriched with a new splash of color, in which the 96-room design hotel combines retro atmosphere and urban energy.
All about the VIBE
This Thursday evening was all about VIBE. The party atmosphere started right at the hotel entrance: the stilt walkers of the Taurin Circus Group welcomed the arrivals. A cocktail flair show on the arcaded terrace ensured that guests arrived at VIBE from the very first moment.
The host of the evening was Péter Radnai, who appeared in three different roles that evening. He greeted the guests and then handed over the floor to Gergő Franciscy, CEO of CPI Hotels Hungary Kft., who gave his opening speech, followed by Diána Ambrus, hotel manager of Mamaison Vibe Hotel Downtown Budapest and Mamaison Hotel Chain Bridge Budapest. Zoltán Varró, interior designer of several hotels of CPI Hotels Hungary, also spoke about the design and birth of the house. Zoltán Somlyai, president of the Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants Association, also wished the owner and his hotels much success and many guests.
Dóra Anek, regional manager and sales & marketing director of the company, introduced the VIBE PASS stamp collection card and where and what guests will find during the evening.
They all emphasized that design, location and uniqueness in the two new Mamaison Collection hotels in Budapest are not just an aesthetic issue, but a conscious creation of an urban experience.
The hotels are much more than a typical downtown accommodation: bold, energetic and characterful answers to what it means to offer a real urban experience today.
Gastronomic adventures, carousel bar and awesome music experiences
In keeping with the atmosphere of the 70s and 80s, the hotel’s new restaurant concept was also introduced: the Funky Budapest Bistro & Bar prepared an authentic Hungarian street food-inspired buffet dinner for the evening. Drinks counters, upstairs on the terrace of Suite 116, there was a pálinka tasting in addition to Sonkamester’s delicacies. In the Duna conference room, guests could taste cheese, salad, fruit bar, meat show kitchen and a giant tuna in the Bistro section with blue wallpaper. Kürtöskalács, ice cream and Bambi from the Retro Museum’s Trabant and space jelly were offered.
In keeping with the hotel's carousel bar and the distinctive visual world of the lobby, signature cocktails accompanied the gastronomic experience. Drinks with the imaginative names Flipper, Carousel, Pac-Man and Rubik Cube not only enhanced the retro atmosphere in their taste but also in their appearance, evoking the iconic experiences of the era with playful visual references.
The evening's musical director was Péter Radnai and the Midlife Crisis band.
The audience was also part of the experience: the audience was already dancing along to the retro beats when, during Proud Mary, the MUSE_hun dancers made the evening truly memorable with their performance on the carousel counter. The night finally ended with a party that lasted until dawn with Péter Radnai returning as a DJ.
The exciting fusion of retro and modern at Mamaison Vibe Hotel Downtown Budapest
The interior consciously breaks with the restrained minimalism that is so typical today. Vibrant colors, playful patterns and powerful visual elements define the spaces, which simultaneously evoke Budapest’s past and reflect the city’s current urban pulse. The design is nostalgic yet fresh: retro motifs are reinterpreted in a contemporary setting.
One of the most exciting points of the hotel is the lobby, which functions as a real community space. The attention is immediately drawn to the carousel bar in the middle: this special installation is a subtle reference to the iconic scene from the legendary film Carousel, which has become an eternal metaphor for freedom and love.
Around the bar with real swings, thematic corners evoke the atmosphere of the 60s, 70s and 80s: neon signs, retro gaming machines and vintage advertising posters create the atmosphere of time travel.
Each of the 96 rooms: Cozy, Groove, Vibe and Funky categories, as well as the Ultra Vibe suites, have modern comfort and characterful design. The smart TV, streaming option, mini fridge or laptop-sized safe are all tailored to the needs of today's travelers.
A modern Market awaits guests on the hotel's lobby level, where practical travel accessories and souvenirs can be purchased.
The gastronomic experience is completed by the Funky Budapest Bistro & Bar, where classic Hungarian flavors appear in a contemporary guise. The place is both a bistro and a bar: a place for casual encounters during the day and a lively community space in the evening.
