Like every year, Hungary's Christmas tree will radiate Kossuth Square in 2025 as well. The tree has already been chosen, let's see what we know about it so far.
In keeping with the tradition of previous years, the country's Christmas tree to be erected on Kossuth Square was selected this year as well, and it will be the largest pine tree in the town of Ibrány, an almost 23-meter-high silver pine.
Throughout the year, offerings continued to arrive at the Office of the Parliament from all over the country. Of the 31 pine trees, 18 were tall enough to be examined on site, and several even made it into last year's selection - they wrote.
What should Hungary's Christmas tree be like?
The appropriate height - approximately 20 meters or more -, the proportional shape and the sufficiently lush foliage were also important.
After that, safe accessibility, the position of the electrical wires, the space requirements of the crane and the transport vehicle, and how the giant pine tree would withstand the rigors of cutting, lifting and fixing had to be taken into account. The decision was made after considering the transport routes, the Press Office of the Parliament announced.
Silver fir from Ibrány to be Hungary's Christmas tree
According to the statement, the family that donated the tree - who wish to remain anonymous - decided, at the suggestion of their grandchildren, on Christmas Eve last year to donate the fir tree that had grown in their yard over forty years to the Office of the Parliament.
As they wrote, they were filled with great joy and pride that their silver fir, planted decades ago as a ball of earth, would adorn the capital's Kossuth Square, which is dressed in festive lights, as the country's Christmas tree, from the first Sunday of Advent until Epiphany.
According to them, in previous years they had always admired the Christmas tree set up in front of the Parliament, which this year will fill them all with special pride - the statement reads.
Information about the date of cutting down and transporting the tree will be provided later - the statement says.
