The Lights were Switched on at Hungary's Christmas Tree

2025.12.01

As a symbol of the festive candle lighting, Hungary's Christmas tree was lit on Kossuth Square on Sunday.

The almost 23-meter-tall silver fir tree, which was erected in front of the Parliament and arrived from the town of Ibrány in the Nyírség, reached its full splendor on the afternoon of the first Sunday of Advent after several days of decoration.

Those present were greeted by János Latorcai, Vice President of the Parliament. He reminded that Advent is a holiday of waiting, longing and hope.

What can we know about Hungary's Christmas tree?

This tree was selected from 31 donated trees by a committee set up specifically for this purpose, and is adorned with a 130-centimeter, 25-kilogram Star of Bethlehem and illuminated by a 2,500-meter string of lights containing 16,000 energy-saving, colorful LED bulbs.

Next to the tree, you can find a Bethlehem manger from Kisgyőr, with its life-size figures of the Holy Family, carved from wood.

If you are walking by the Parliament in December, be sure to check out Hungary's Christmas tree and the Bethlehem manger: it's worth it!
