Summer has treated us to some wonderful programs in Budapest, and September is set to be no less exciting. In fact, we won't have to say goodbye to the festivals just yet, as there are still plenty of fantastic events to look forward to. There will be plenty to eat and drink, and lots to taste and explore. Musically, we won't go hungry either. Let's take a look at the best free programs in Budapest in September, at least in the first half of the month.

From 1 to 15 September, enjoy beer, wine and other delicacies at free events in Budapest

A joyous celebration for beer fans is coming: The Downtown Beer Festival at Szabadság Square from 2 to 7 September, where you can enjoy more than 250 types of craft and imported beers, street food and live music. Admission is free, but you will need to purchase a festival glass.

If you prefer wine or champagne, Then the Budafok Champagne and Wine Festival could be the perfect event for you. In District XXII of Budapest, on the charming streets of Budafok, you'll find a celebration of sparkling and fine wines complete with gastronomy, concerts and programs for all the family. Admission is free, but you will need to pay for your drinks and the special festival glass.

Family activities and fashion events

If you prefer family entertainment with live music, art and community programs, Pozsonyi Picnic at Újlipótváros Riverside (6 September) is one of the best free programs in Budapest this September for you.

Fashion lovers will be thrilled to hear that the sixteenth edition of Budapest Central European Fashion Week is coming up. The leading fashion event in the Central European region will take place in Budapest from 1–7 September 2025. From 1 to 7 September 2025, events will be held across the city, including at the Millenáris Building D and the National Dance Theatre. It is a great opportunity to experience the vibrant pulse of the fashion world.

Yes, there's more!

The KRAFT Beer Festival returns to Dürer Kert from 11–14 September, with the best beers and music guaranteed. Alternatively, if you prefer to sit down, close your eyes and be carried away on the rhythm of jazz, visit the Budapest Jazz Club, where there are free jam sessions every night, or the Józsefvárosi Jazz Festival between 12 and 14 September, where jazz traditions and new trends meet over three days on two stages: the Rákóczi square and the Rákóczi square Vásárcsarnok. Well-known names and young talents will perform alongside several excellent domestic acts. It would be a shame to miss this weekend!

In September, we will be fortunate enough to be able to go to the beach or to a river cruise during the warmest hours, go hiking during the cooler mornings, and explore the parks, such as the City Park or Margaret Island, and the beautiful settlements close to Budapest, such as Szentendre and Esztergom. Get ready for a beautiful and unforgettable September with lots of great free programs!
