Situated between Pest and Buda, embraced by the Danube, the 96-hectare Margaret Island offers a wide range of experiences and great restaurants!
Margaret Island, which is 2.5 km long, 500 metres wide and 96 hectares in area, was once the island of Rabbits and a religious centre, but nowadays it is mostly a green oasis in the heart of the city, where the beauty of nature meets the hustle and bustle of urban life. It is home to hotels, sports facilities, a Japanese garden, a petting zoo, the Margaret Island Open-Air Theatre, the Water Tower and the very popular musical fountain, which operates from May to the end of October.
It's a beautiful place to spend a day full of experiences, and you can organise a wide range of activities, from romantic evenings to get-togethers with friends and family. And if you're looking for the best food to go with it, head to the Gastro Promenade, where you can discover great places from April to November.
How to get to the Gasztro Promenade: you can find it 2-3 minutes walk from the bus stop Hajós Alfréd uszoda, on the line of the bus 26. A big BUDAPEST sign will show you that you are at the right place.
Champs Pub
As you arrive, the Champs Pub is the first place you'll come across. It's a super place where sport takes centre stage: you'll see jerseys and scarves on display, brought in by fans, and the giant projector itself is in a football booth. If you want to go out with your mates to watch the football and have a few beers and nachos, Champs Pub is a great choice.

Island Bistro
Can we have some sweets? At the Island Bistro you can try the heavenly mini doughnuts or the Bubble waffles, which will be gone in no time as you walk along. Come back for another round!

Stég and Island Hostel
The Stég and the Island Hostel, which you can also find on Booking if you want to stay here, are jointly run but completely separate. We recommend this not only because of the beautiful surroundings, but also because you really don't have to go far for the best burgers and lángosh: you can find them all summer long at the waterfront-style Stég.

Hippie Island
The Hippie Island is the highlight of the Gastro Promenade, where they open at the beginning of April and close at the latest, because they have a covered, enclosed area where guests can sit until it gets very cold. Of course, the most popular in summer is the back terrace, where there are great conversations, relaxed cocktails and dance moves. They plan to do it again this year, with sunset parties and DJs. But there are many other events planned, including an egg hunt for children at Easter and a children's day at the end of May, as well as yoga classes, Formula-1 and BL broadcasts. But it's not only a great choice in the evenings, but also for breakfast and brunch.

Pizza Puzzle
If you're in the mood for Neapolitan pizza, you should try the huge selection at Pizza Puzzle: their 32 cm pizzas are hearty and as tasty as if you were in Italy. No wonder, as the owners have learnt the art of pizza making from Italian pizza masters. Even if the weather's a bit overcast, don't hesitate to choose them, as you can sit indoors if it 's drizzling.
Wonder Island
Amusement park, trampoline park, fun and adrenaline - you name it! On weekdays you can visit Wonder Island from Thursday evening, with Fergeteg parties on Friday, salsa nights on Saturday and rock and roll on Sunday. These events are usually free, but if you have a cheap ticket for the salsa nights, you can buy it at the buffet inside.

Paulaner Beer Garden and Garden Cinema
If you love the retro feel, the beer garden atmosphere and the outdoor cinema vibe, this is the place to experience it all! You can sit on pallet furniture and indulge in all our favourite films, which are shown in the summer from 3, 5 and 7 pm. This programme is also great because behind the screen you can see the Danube and the buildings on the Pest side, which makes the cinema experience a little more special when lit up in the evening. The screenings are free of charge and you can see the programme here. There are also programmes planned for the small artificial pitch next to the cinema, such as vintage fairs, but it is also a popular venue for corporate events.
