After years without a nonstop link, direct flights between Budapest and Toronto are back. Air Canada's seasonal service reconnects Hungary with Canada's largest city through October.
As we wrote about it last year, Air Canada has officially resumed direct flights between Budapest and Toronto, restoring a long-awaited air connection between Hungary and Canada. The seasonal service returned on 6 June 2026 and will operate until 24 October, providing travelers with a convenient nonstop option between the two cities.
The relaunch marks the return of a route that was previously operated by Air Canada Rouge between 2016 and 2019. Airport officials, government representatives and airline executives celebrated the inaugural flight at Budapest Airport, highlighting the importance of stronger transportation links between Hungary and North America.
The route is operated by Air Canada's Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, offering passengers a choice of three travel classes. Initially, the airline will operate four flights per week, increasing to five weekly services during the peak summer months of July and August.
According to Budapest Airport, demand for travel between Hungary and Canada is already substantial. Nearly 90,000 passengers travel between the two countries each year, and the return of a direct connection is expected to stimulate further growth in both leisure and business travel.
Officials emphasized that the service is likely to appeal to a wide range of travelers. Tourists, business visitors, people visiting friends and relatives, conference attendees and cruise passengers are all expected to benefit from the faster and more convenient connection. In addition to Toronto itself, the route offers onward access to destinations across North America, South America and the Caribbean through Air Canada's network.
The launch also continues a broader expansion of Budapest Airport's transatlantic connections. It follows the recent announcement and introduction of additional direct North American services, reflecting growing demand for long-haul travel from the Hungarian capital.
For travelers, the new route significantly reduces travel time. The flight from Budapest to Toronto takes approximately 9 hours and 20 minutes, while the return journey is scheduled at around 8 hours and 40 minutes. According to fare data reported at the launch, return tickets for summer travel can be found from roughly HUF 250,000, although one-way fares are typically much higher.
With direct flights now operating throughout the summer season, travelers once again have a fast and convenient way to reach Canada's largest city without the need for a connection, strengthening tourism, business ties and personal connections between the two countries.
