Large-scale concerts, family programs, Advent walks, literary and dance evenings, as well as a craft fair and an outdoor exhibition await families in the Várkert Bazár's Advent program series between November 29 and December 31.
A beautiful Advent is coming up in the Várkert Bazár (Castle Garden Bazaar) in Budapest. The Kolompos ensemble will perform on the Santa Claus Family Day on December 6, and the puppet musical Kippkopp in the Snow will be shown. On Advent Sundays, free craft workshops will be held in the auditorium of the Conference Hall, but Hungarian craft artists will also offer their own wares at the Advent fair to be held in the De la Motte–Beer Palace between December 12 and 14, and 19 and 21.
The Advent walks titled Sisi's Christmas and the outdoor exhibition titled Let's Celebrate on Earth! - Our World of Retro Winters also promise to be special programs. The latter presents the material culture related to the winter season and holidays of the second half of the 20th century.
Musical Advent in the Várkert Bazaar
On November 29, the audience is invited to the album launch of Dániel Szebényi entitled Újraterőlő, and on November 30, the venue will host a joint production by the Sárik Péter Trió and Krisztina Koszorus. On December 7, Budapest Bár will give a double concert, and Honeybeast will perform with their production Összhang – nyitány on December 13.
On December 17, Rezső Soltész and his band will be the guests, whose concert will include Christmas classics such as Silent Night or ABBA’s Happy New Year. The singer will be accompanied by the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra, pianist Róbert Rátonyi Jr. and a traditional beat ensemble, and the guest of the concert will be actor Sándor Lukács.
Hungarian-American songwriter and singer Zóra Urbányi will return to the Várkert Bazár stage with a double concert titled One Night, One Feeling, One Voice on December 20th, and the following day the StEfrem Male Choir will perform its Advent and Christmas program with guest appearance by Edina Mókus Szirtes. Ivan & The Parazol will perform on December 27th, and the following day the Modern Art Orchestra will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a gala concert, which will feature, among others, Veronika Harcsa and Franciska Törőcsik.
The pre-New Year's Eve performer on December 30th will once again be Random Trip, and the Várkert Bazár audience can celebrate New Year's Eve at the electronic party of Be Massive.
Advent Fair, Free Crafts, Traditions
During the Advent period, festive decorations, charcoal-grilled Christmas food specialties, and hot drinks await walkers on the terrace of the Halászó Children's Village, and at the Advent Fair to be held in the De la Motte–Beer Palace on Dísz Square, contemporary artists will be waiting not only with their wares, but also with special workshops. In addition, on Advent Sundays, free crafts workshops will be held in the auditorium of the Conference Hall where you can make Advent wreaths and small gifts and decorations.
And speaking of gifts, decorations, and traditions: on December 14, the audience will be able to see the play Winter Dance performed by the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble, in which forgotten and disappearing Hungarian traditions and the customs of the great days come to life.
