The programs we put together for this 3 day long weekend spent in Budapest is a balanced mix of historical sights, art exhibitions, classical and contemporary culture, gastronomy, and we also thought of your evening entertainment.
On Friday (Feb 28) we suggest you start your morning in the Szépművészeti Múzeum/Museum of Fine Arts where you can see the wonderful Munkácsy: A Global Success Story Exhibition showcasing the works of Mihály Munkácsy, one of Hungary’s most famous painters.
After that how about a delicious lunch in one of Budapest’s most elegant restaurants? Gundel is just a few minute walk from the museum, where among others you can taste the traditional Hortobágyi pancake, goulash soup or Gundel pancake.
It is always wonderful to take a nice walk after lunch, so let’s go to the Buda side and spend the afternoon with exploring the Castle District, Halászbástya/Fisherman’s Bastion, Mátyás templom/Matthias Church and you can also participate in an interactive tour at the Sziklakórház/ Hospital in the Rock.
If you like nostalgic parties featuring the biggest hits of the ’90s and 2000s then Necc Party in Akvárium Klub is your place to spend or at least start your Friday night.
The next morning, for Saturday (March 1) Ludwig Museum, a premier institution showcasing contemporary Hungarian and international art is our suggestion for you.
For lunch, let’s head to the 5th District to the beautiful Central Grand Café where Beef stew with dumplings, or the famous Eszterházy cake can be tasted and tested.
And where to go in the afternoon? To the wonderful Városliget/City Park where you find the breathtaking House of Hungarian Music and besides the beauty of the building and its surroundings you can also see the Interactive Music History Exhibition.
And how about heading back to MÜPA for the evening for the Accademia Bizantina & Purcell Choir Concert? A world-class baroque music concert featuring an Italian early music ensemble starting at 7:30 PM in the Bartók Béla Concert Hall.
And now that we have reached the last day of this Budapest weekend, on Sunday (March 2) let’s go to the iconic Hungarian Parliament to take a tour in the building, and right after that a scenic boat tour on the Danube could be a wonderful idea.
A bit farther away is the gorgeous New York Café, the place to visit and enjoy the never fading elegance of historical times…
Hope you like our tips for this weekend, we aimed to suggest you historical, artistic, and culinary experiences while balancing classical and modern attractions.
Have a great time and hope to see you soon!
