Peat wraps and masks are mainly used in places where there is no medicinal mud (silt) available. There is also a long existing tradition of using peat for healing purposes in Eastern Europe; they have been applied for a variety of skin and rheumatic conditions. The treatment begins with a dry body brushing. Then a combination of (seaweed) extracts is applied with heated peat. The warm wrap offers efficient detoxification, due to its microelements, vitamins, polyphenols, lipids, and especially humic acids. Many studies have shown that humic has an astringent effect and also drains the toxic substances from the body. Peat treatments are also applied to remedy dry hair and to reduce cellulite.
