Children’s Railway
City: Budapest
Area: District 2.
Phone: 395 5420
This narrow-gauge railway line in the Buda hills is operated by children aged 10-14, under the supervision of adult railway workers and teachers. It follows the model of its Russian and Yugoslav counterparts.
Built after World War II, it was originally called the Pioneers' Railway, and was dubbed Children's Railway only after the fall of the Communist Regime in 1990.
It is one of the major landmarks of the Buda Hills, and a convenient and reliable means of public transportation. All stops of the Children's Railway are popular recreation spots, and are perfect for a nice walk out in the nature (Normafa, Wildlife Park, Széchenyi Hill, János Hill).
