The Arany Sas Pharmacy Museum finally re-opened after a long-needed restoration project in the year 1974, in a prestigious building within the Buda Castle District. The building had given home to a pharmacy between the mid-1800’s and World War I.
Changes to the building in the 18th and 19th have shaped today's building. The two main premises are the "officina", a room designed to serve the customers, and the laboratory, equipped with a counter. The exhibition, set up around the interior of the two main rooms, displays the evolution of medicine through scriptures, images and objects. The museum greatly succeeds in presenting the fact that the history of medicine is not only a fine representation of just one science but applied art as well. The furniture of the pharmacy, the pots and pans made of ceramics, wood and glass, the mortars, scales and other objects do deserve a place among the most precious pieces of our cultural heritage.
