Central Transdanubia
Central Transdanubia is the historical centre of Hungary, and not only in terms of geography. The region has two counties, both of whose central cities - Veszprém and Székesfehérvár - are among the oldest settlements in Hungary.
The Transdanubian Mountain Range, on the northern side of the region, has three parts: the Gerecse, the Vértes and the Bakony are very popular with hikers and nature enthusiasts, as the countrywide Blue Tour Route leads through the area.
The southern side's main attraction is Lake Velence, often called the "Sunshine Lake". Due to the winds from the North, it is one of the most popular lakes with windsurfers. Bath and spa resorts, in Pápa, Agárd and Komárom have recently been renovated to meet international standards.
Central Transdanubia also gives home to the world-famous Herend porcelain factory, the products of which have decorated the tables of the privileged since the 1830-s.
