The Church of Avas almost solely represents the medieval Miskolc in today's city. The findings have clearly proved that a simple, straight apse church of respectable size stood at the same place in the Arpad era. In the cemetery of Avas is the belfry built in 1557. Its signals the passing of time with its distinctive chime every quarter of hour.
The classicistic church was erected in 1786-1808. It has the highest 68 meter tall tower in the church district, housing the 2,6 ton Esther Bell named after Eszter Bató daughter of a wealthy merchant family.
Hungest Hotel Palota is situated in Lillafüred, a settlement 10 kilometres from Miskolc. The castle built in eclectic style between 1927 and 1930 is surrounded by a hanging garden and a large park. The church was built on the ruins of a smaller medieval chapel between 1728-1743. Its altarpieces depicting St Peter and St Paul, the Virgin Mary, St Joseph, St Ladislaw, St Stephen.
The construction of this baroque church was finished around 1743 though its decoration, equipment and the building of the towers took several more decades.
The area has a character of an arboretum, rich in indigenous and exotic species; poplars, Baldcypress (Taxodium campestris), Bhutan Pine (Pinus wallichiana).
The original building was consecrated in 1938. The design of the church was influenced by the architect's Transylvanian origin. The church was destroyed in a fire in 1997 and was rebuilt respecting the original plans of Bálint Szeghalmy, thanks to public contributions.
