The Café Gerbeaud is probably Budapest’s most famous and best coffeehouse and confectionery. Located in the heart of Budapest’s downtown, on Vörösmarty tér, at the northern tip of Váci utca, it sweetens life in Budapest since the year 1870. The rich stucco decorations, the marble tables and the rich wooden wall ornaments create an elegant and still homey atmosphere.
The café has 330 indoor seats for guests, offering the best traditional Hungarian pastry, such as the Dobos cake, the Kugler Mignon or the Esterhazy cake. The bonbon corner's delicacies are popular presents for loved ones in Hungary. Most still claim that the Gerbeaud has the best moist plum pie in Budapest, made to a traditional recipe dating back to the 19th century.
